EAST NASHVILLE. The casual, pub-like confines of the Batter'd and Fried Boston Seafood House offers good seafood at inexpensive prices. The menu focuses on different-size baskets of fried seafood, though there are a few pasta and nonfried entrees. The Wave Sushi Bar is also located in the restaurant, providing traditional favs like the California roll alongside more creative choices like the Crazy Calvin roll.

MUSIC VALLEY. Cascades Restaurant is surrounded by gardens and waterfalls, which lend a tropical note to Music City's scene. Fresh seafood is key, and Australian lobster tails crown an impressive menu that also includes pan-seared Atlantic cod, diver scallops, swordfish with bacon-rosemary aioli, and halibut with lobster stuffing. Inside the restaurant, Wasabi's offers traditional sushi, sake cocktails, and Japanese beers.

WEST END AVENUE. Ultra-modern décor and refined wait staff let you know immediately that this is one of Nashville's most exclusive Japanese restaurants. Hibachi dinners are the specialty here, and the locals get a big kick out of the chefs' spirited chopping and dicing routines. For those with sushi in mind, Goten offers what many regard as Nashville's best sushi bar.

DOWNTOWN. Located in Nashville's historic district, the storefront of this casual Japanese restaurant is a showcase of traditional Japanese delicacies ­ making for a unique scene in the heart of the Music City. Locals know that Ichiban is the place to go for great sushi. The menu includes such regionalized specialties as the "Dixieland Roll," " Nashville Roll," and "Second Avenue Roll." Brave diners may even opt to sample the interestingly named "Caterpillar Roll" ­ don't worry; there are no baby butterflies. Delivery and take-out are available.

MUSIC ROW. If you don't want to pay a ton for good sushi, come to Ken's. Ken's is popular with the Vandy set (especially students) for lunch or dinner because of the casual atmosphere and reasonable prices. Service and seating is generally prompt, but watch the lunchtime crowds.
